              for most games it's a matter of setting expectations i think

              i don't expect having a good experience when playing an early access game, and for that reason i'm very reluctant to buy or even play early access games

              but at the same time, if i do, i don't like to criticize them publicly if i had a bad time while playing until the developers say they're done, since i was warned about it

                @steffo @gigalomaniac the main problem I have with this is games that are in early access or public beta for several years and are already fully fledged games
                minecraft was solid long before 1.0, there were much more significant updates before and after
                factorio is a 2016 game, not a 2020 game
                and then there's the games that never come out of early access and that's honestly just a bad excuse to dismiss good-faith criticism

                  @steffo @gigalomaniac point being the distinction between "early access" and "release" states is very arbitrary and it tends to make little sense from the perspective of players when the game is already in a fully playable state
                  it's rarely the case that early access games are incomplete in that the content drops during that phase are effectively just normal content updates by modern standards and its absence doesn't truly diminish the experience
