:boosts_ok: racism, fedi, specifically for people who want to or are currently fighting racism [SENSITIVE CONTENT]
I need to write a proper post about this at some point, but for now, here's the short version:
If you're purportedly fighting racism on fedi, purportedly trying to make it a more diverse space, purportedly trying to make it a more welcoming space to people that aren't white, etc, stop assuming people that don't have their race plastered in all caps on their profile are white, k? 
(*especially* if you're a POC yourself)
Because you know what that is? White-washing, an example of the very racism we're trying to fight, and something that makes a space seem less diverse than it actually is 
The fact that it's used against POC to discredit what we have to say is just the cherry on top (and often even a wonderful example of lateral violence 
)

Mastodon (glitch, chuckya etc.) question: Apparently the username admin is reserved (which makes sense) but err.. how do I actually use/create an account with that username then for admin-y things o.o

tldr: Intentionally mis-spelling words (including names) that involve politics actively harms the most vulnerable in our society. You can help by simply including and properly spelling important words and names. Bonus points for using CWs

Let's establish a few things 
・We're on fedi (including Mastodon), so there is no shady algorithm hiding your posts from people because you said a word it didn't like.
・Vulnerable minorities have limited spoons on account of *gestures broadly at the world*.
・Vulnerable minorities use word filters on fedi to make it so we don't have to see "you're currently being genocided, have fun~ 
" 30 times a day.
・Mis-spelling words (especially the names of famous figures) or omitting them altogether allows your post to sneak past those filters.
With that all laid out, you can see why mis-spelling or omitting important words related to your post can actively aid fascists in their oppression of minorities by robbing us of what precious few spoons we have. Making sure to include relevant words and spell them correctly is an easy way to actively resist the fascists and help marginalised people in your every day life

I've been thinking about Fedi recently...it's brought me stress and anguish, but also genuine connection, joy, support, even of the saving kind, and I have no clue where I'd be without it 
whatever cons it may present, the pros far, far outweight it in so many ways, and I'm so terribly grateful for the people that make it possible and lively, from the devs, instance admins, and the posters that make it what it is 
if I were to name individuals, I'm fairly sure I'd be this would be even more of a wall of text than it already is, so I'll refrain from it, but thank you all for making this all possible, no matter how small or large your contribution I can only hope that I can reciprocate in my own ways

here's your irregular reminder that bigotry held or expressed by a person with some form of marginalisation is still bigotry
being marginalised doesn't fully innoculate us against being bigoted, and learning to unlearn the myriad bigotries society instills in us is a lifelong endeavour in which we continually have to be willing to put aside our ego and be a student
as always, yes, this includes popular people and even people that purport to be fighting for social justice and equality, and even people that have acted in support of social justice and equality in the past bad actors can use those sorts of people to lend legitimacy to their own bigoted goals, making them dangerous weapons against the marginalised
